According to official statistical data and population census in 2011, 132,892 inhabitants live in the area of Krapina-Zagorje County, amounting to 3.1% of the total number of inhabitants in the Republic of Croatia.

The largest population decline in north-western Croatia from 2007 to 2011 was recorded in the Krapina-Zagorje County (population declined by 4,843) and and the County experienced a negative migration trend.

The Krapina-Zagorje County is one of the most densely populated areas in the Republic of Croatia (after the Međimurje County and Varaždin County). The population density is 107.83 inhabitants/km2 (the national average is 84 inhabitants/km2).

A total of 72.22% of the population in the Krapina-Zagorje County belongs to the age group of 15-69 years and is the basis of the working age population. An analysis of the educational structure of the population in Krapina-Zagorje County shows that a larger proportion of the population aged over 15 have completed high school with the duration of high school from one to three years including schools for skilled and highly skilled workers, whereby males account for a higher proportion.
